Abstract:To restore lake by topping cultivation (returning innings) is one of the key principles that that Chinese government requests for mitigating flood disasters and improving eco-environmental conditions in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River since 1998.In Jiangxi Province, 389 innings in the Poyang Lake district are concerned, which could return a corresponding 1234.32km2 cultivated lands to wetlands and/or main lake.Based on the investigations upon the different restoring strategies initialed by the local government, the possible impacts of the whole restoring project on the flood regime are discussed, i.e.on the peak floods and their occurrences.Moreover, some appropriate managerial methods as well as the eco-environmental response to the restoring project are analyzed.
