According to the time series of flood and waterlogged in Dongting Lake during 1471—1996,hydrological and meteorological data,as well as disastrous condition data.This paper revealed the characteristics of flood and waterogged in the region by use of several analytical methods. Such as the features of flood and waterogged development by stages and areal variation: the [eatures 0f successive occurrence, periodicaI occurrence and territoria1 com bination:the feature 0f self—similarity. The characteristics are provided scientific basis for disaster evaluation.disaster forecast,disaster protection,disaster reduction and economic construction in Dongting Lake region.
