Vanda Salt Lake in Antarctica is saturated for calcite, and calculated saturation indices for calcite vary with an increase of water depth.pH and dissolved O₂ are major factors to control this variation in upper oxidation lake water with roughly homogeneous system of Ca²⁺ and HCO₃^- activity values calcium and bicarbonate activities are major factors to control while this variation in the lower reduction brine.These reveal the mechanism of calcite mineral formation in the recent sediments of the lake bottom.
