According to the field investigation and relevant literature, the author attempts to shed light on the cause of the extremely heavy floods occurring in Taihu Lake region in 1991, compares the flood-hit areas of 1954 with those of 1991, summarizes the experience of controlling flood water and presents some useful proposals.
